About Osama
Osama Hajjaj is a Jordanian editorial cartoonist and contributes to various newspapers across the Arab world and international publications, including Le Monde, as well as global platforms such as Cagle Cartoon and Cartoon Movement. He has earned numerous awards and certificates of recognition worldwide and has participated in exhibitions in several countries. Osama has also faced challenges related to freedom of expression due to his cartoons. Notably, in 1994, he became the first cartoonist to be imprisoned in Jordan for a cartoon about the Muslim Brotherhood.
BMI is pleased to welcome Osama Hajjaj as an Artist Protection Fund Fellow at UNLV-Black Mountain Institute. An initiative of Institute of International Education, the Artist Protection Fund (IIE-APF) fills a critical unmet need by protecting threatened artists and placing them at welcoming host institutions in safe countries where they can continue their work and plan for their futures. IIE- APF places these artists in safe havens for a full year and provides fellowship funding, mentoring, and inclusion in a comprehensive network of artistic and social support.
